Very Few Lawyers Receive the Illinois ‘Super Lawyer’ Designation
The process of being chosen as a Super Lawyer in Illinois is not easy. Only 5% of Illinois lawyers receive this designation per category of legal practice. A peer who has personally observed the lawyer in action must nominate the lawyer. It is not possible for lawyers to “game” the system by nominating themselves.
For example, two lawyers cannot nominate each other. Lawyers are not allowed to solicit nominations or campaign for nominations. This process helps the Super Lawyers group only select genuinely Super Lawyers who stand out among their peers.
The Illinois Super Lawyer Research Process
After Super Lawyers verifies the nominees, their team of research attorneys searches for lawyers with any or all of the following designations:
- A high degree of peer recognition
- A high degree of professional competence
- Certification as a specialist in a particular area of law
- Successful verdicts or settlements
- Experience
- Receipt of awards or honors
- Other outstanding achievements
Candidates are peer-reviewed by other lawyers in their practice area. Finally, all of the points from the research process are added up. Only the top 5% of lawyers within the state receive the designation of Super Lawyers.
