Mr. Glasgow Successfully Defended a Mother Accused of Murder

Mr. Glasgow has never shied away from a complicated criminal defense case, nor does Mr. Glasgow get intimidated by tough odds. In a case that received international attantion, Mr. Glasgow successfully defended a woman in accusations that she murdered her disabled daughter. The woman had adopted her daughter at age 5, raised her as a single mother and by all accounts was a loving, devoted caretaker. Facing her own serious health problems and despairing over what would happen to her daughter without her, the mother said she thought she was near death when she gave her daughter a fatal dose of medication and then tried to kill herself.

The mother was suffering deteriorating health while in prison serving a four-year sentence after she was convicted of the death of her disabled daughter. The mother had been fighting numerous health problems while in prison as a result of ovarian cancer, had lost an immense amount of weight and had been suffering from health issues that were better served by medical providers outside the prison system. Mr. Glasgow argued to the appellate court that the mother needed to be released on bond so that she could get proper medical care for her failing health. The court was convinced and issued the mother a bond. The ultimate disposition of the mother on her sentencing appeal remains pending before the appellate court.

Championing One of the First Instances of Eyewitness Memory Distortion Testimony in Illinois

Mr. Glasgow has a reputation for fighting the good fight, even if it means fighting an unprecedented battle. In the criminal defense of a defendant in Cook County, certain witnesses were unable to clearly identify Mr. Glasgow’s client in a police lineup as the woman who was accused of the death of two other women. Science has shown that eyewitnesses are sometimes unreliable because they can suffer from memory distortion. In this case, Mr. Glasgow argued that the memories relied upon by the prosecution’s witness had been distorted in the encoding, the storage, and the recall portion in the formation of the memories. Expert testimony presented in this case, was one of the first times ever in Illinois history that eyewitness memory distortion testimony was presented to the court.
